The past weekend was full of social gatherings with old friends (for me) and new friends (for K.Light). Friday night was spent casually catching up with a few friends from my old high school at the lovely Relish on Changkat Bukit Bintang. We sat nursing our drinks and picking at hot wedges while across the road, the stylish set flocked to Frangipanis, which glowed red like a Parisian whore house and vibrated with the deep bass of house music.
None of us were in the mood to patron any messy noisy sweaty clubs on that Friday night. But K.Light had promised to meet a friend at the messy noisy sweaty Heritage Row, so we headed over to The Ivy and endured an hour of messy noisy sweaty people dancing badly to early 90's hip hop.
Saturday was a little more subdued - we attended another old high school friend's (mine) birthday party. The restaurant, located in the Mont Kiara suburbs, was v. tastefully decorated with sleek minimalist furniture and whitewashed wooden floorboards. We worked our way through the four-course dinner lubricated by great vino and conversation. I thought to myself, while savoring the lemon sorbet palate cleanser course with a teaspoon- we know we're growing older when our birthday parties are spent catching up with good friends over lovely food and candlelight; actually, scratch that, we know we're growing older when we actually remember what we did at our birthday parties.
