Last Kopek!

We're married!

We had a wonderful (albeit slightly stressful) week in the run-up to the big event, with friends and family flying in from different parts of the world to share our special day with us. It was so wonderful spending time with old friends I don't get to see very often. Seriously - people should get married just to have an excuse to throw the best party ever with the best people ever.

The best part of the wedding was the surpraiiise video shown at our reception that was the brainchild of my sister Naz, and expertly executed by besties Zales and Efi, featuring some of our favorite people in the world:

Anytime I feel the onset of post-wedding blues, I just watch the video on YouTube and the world is bright and shiny again! It's the gift that keeps on giving.

As if getting married wasn't a big enough change, Adam and I are now preparing for our move to Cambridge, MA for a year. But there are sooo many things I want to do before we go! Like:

1) Go on our mini-moon to Uluwatu, Bali - Our trip is so generously sponsored as a weding gift from 4 of my good friends from the K gang, Shal, Matty, Wina and P. Ali. Bali is one of my favorite places in the world, but I've only stayed in Seminyak and Ubud. Looking forward to 4 days of just chillaxing in our 1-bedroom pool villa!

2) Dinner Partaays - Even though our wedding culminated in an insane after party the day after the reception at a Italian restaurant near Changkat (involving a lot of Patron, dancing to old school hip-hop, taking Photobooth pictures, rapped/sung best friend speeches, an after-after party at Nagaba followed by supper at 4am at the mamak) these old bones aren't what they use to be and recovering from a partaay takes days (as opposed to a few hours the following morning). Welcome to our Thirties! So my new thing is to cook a big feast for friends at home. I love cooking for people, (though sometimes I tend to stress myself out by insisting on trying to do everything myself). I still don't know how my mother managed to host and cook huge feasts for 500+ people at all those Embassy gatherings.

3) Go for a full medical check-up - I need to check up on how these old bones are doing on the inside. You should too!

4) Buy sensible student wardrobe essentials - I've given up on buying any work clothes in anticipation of living in jeans and sneakers / boots for the next year. I just need to figure out how to be stylishly practical. No to Isabel Marant wedge sneakers and yes to flat knee high boots? No to wool pea coats and yes to fleece lined North Face puffy jackets? I don't know how to dress for New England weather.

5) Spend lots of quality time with my Dad - My beloved Papa. I will miss him in the year we are away. We are so lucky he found my stepmom who takes such good care of him and all of us in the family.

6) Spend lots of quality time with my besties - We are so excited to move and make new friends, but I will miss all of my homies in KL. Which means planning a farewell trip to Awanmulan, lots of karaoke sessions in between, and continuing the Friday post-work tradition at El Sid's. We are planning on getting a 2-bedroom apartment in Cambridge in anticipation of hosting tons of visitors from KL!

7) Eat as much nasi lemak as often as I can - Self-explanatory.

I said it once, twice, and I'll say it again. Life is full of unexpected twists and turns. I sometimes look at Adam and think, oh my god, I have a husband, followed by oh my god, I'm a WIFE. And then I'm comforted by the fact that it is indeed a wonderful thing to be able to share all your silly insignificant thoughts with someone for the rest of your life.
